Windsor Shades

Windsor Shades — also known as Ruffin's Ferry and Waterville — is a historic home located near Sweet Hall, King William County, Virginia. It was built about 1785, and is a 1 1/2-story, five-bay, gambrel-roofed, frame structure covered with beaded weatherboards and set on a low, English-bond brick basement. Located on the Pamunkey River, this home was at one time called "Waterville" by the owners. The house was completed in 1794 by James Ruffin. The house features massive Flemish bond brick double-stack chimneys at either end.〔 and (''Accompanying photo'' )〕
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.〔
In 1897 a piece of pig iron was recorded as a possession with a provenance traced to George Washington's father Augustine.〔
There are ruins of an older residence, with a preserved brick dated to 1600, at this same location.〔
